The Plight of Social Democracy

August 14, 2010

I’ve just put up a (too) long piece on the current state of social democracy at Cedar Lounge Revolution, including a discussion of some thoughts from the late Tony Judt should anyone be interested.

Search of the Century

September 29, 2009

For a good while, Splintered Sunrise used to do an entertaining regular feature called Search of the Week (a good example can be found here). I would like to have done it myself, but I never had anything approaching the number of entertaining or weird searches to do so. However, I feel that the following search more than makes up for it:

“can muslims produce cum”

How can you respond to that? Except marvel that someone with such a low IQ can actually work a computer.

Irish Labour in the North: The Future is…?

February 13, 2009

A while back, in this post I discussed a post by Jenny of South Belfast Diary on the rejection by Eamon Gilmore of the Irish Labour Party standing in elections in the North. Jenny now has a brief account of her last meeting as a member. It’s an interesting read.

“A Slow Motion Car Crash”

Great metaphor from Sluggerotoole’s Mick Fealty here about the transfer disaster. I think that the show podcast where he makes it will be well worth listening to.

Stuff to Read Elsewhere

December 20, 2008

Johnny Guitar over at Your Friend in the North is someone I enjoy reading, even if I disagree with much of what he says (as doubtless he disagrees with me). He has put up an interesting post with a suitably Leninist title on events in Greece which is well worth a read, as are the comments, which are worth thinking about in relation to Lao-Tzu’s challenging point in the comments to my own piece on the Greek riots.

Not sure if it is equally worth reading, but I have put up a longish discussion of the Fenians sparked by the current History Ireland special on them, and mentioned some books I found particularly useful for reading about the IRB.
